The Army and Navy agreed that Navy interrogators would have the first crack at naval prisoners of war. They generally focused on naval topics at the tactical and operational level of war. When Navy interrogators were finished, prisoners were turned over to the Army who typically questioned them briefly to classify the prisoners according to their political beliefs - Hardcore National Socialists, run-of-the-mill prisoners and cooperative prisoners were interned in separate camps if space allowed. The Army questioned some naval prisoners about the strategic level of war and on topics related to the conduct of the bombing campaign against Germany. |
