U-1228 was intercepted by USS Sutton and USS Neal A. Scott on May 11, 1945 and boarded the next day

 

    U-1228 arrived at Portsmouth, New Hampshire on May 17, 1945. U-805 had arrived on May 15 followed by U-873 on May 16. U-234 arrived on May 19. The records of these boats are found elsewhere in the U-boat Archive. USCGC Argo (WPC 100) in Portsmouth Harbor, the Portsmouth Naval Prison is in the background. USCGC Argo was one of the Coast Guard vessels that met surrendered U-boats at Portsmouth, New Hampshire.
