29.11.42 From "Ibbeken":  1.)  Sank 27 November "JEREMIAH WADSWORTH" 8000 GRT American new construction.  JJ 2557, course 0°, supposedly from New Orleans to Bombay.  2)  Fuel oil 131 cbm, is enough for return transit at economical speed.  Still 1 plus 1 torpedoes.  Position GR 8846.  3)  Very Low frequency 15.22 KHz with all program times no reception.  All naval squares.

30.11.42 Attack with FAT torpedo is announced by the shooting boat with a FAT Warning.  The boat keeps ready, as soon as the convoy is near, the short signal " U F R C ": I intend to attack with FAT ready and when it starts to attack, about 5 - 15 minutes before the shot, sends it on the appropriate short wave.  2.  When receiving FAT Warning the not sending boat, if not in direct attack, runs at maximum speed from the endangered area, i.e. to a forward position.  Minimum distance 100 meters in aft positions stay at a minimum distance 200 meters from the outermost ships of the convoy or if this is not possible, dive to at least 20 meters.  3.)  Validity period of FAT Warning 30 minutes.  If attack is delayed shooting boat must repeat FAT Warning.  4.)  FAT torpedoes are only to be used at night, there is no requirement for submerged attack.  5.)  The cases in which the FAT is actually a danger are rare.  The above instruction does not change anything in our proven principles of reckless attack.

01.12.42 From now on convoy circuits will be used as needed.  1.)  Circuit "Diana" short wave:  19.00-10.00 hours WO - 3920 KHz 10.00-17.00 hours PF = 6675 KHz.  17.00-19.00 hours ND 4965 KHz.  Very Low Frequency Bordeaux 15.66 KHz Program tines:  02.00-03.00 hours, 05.00-06.00, 08.00-09.00 hours and once every 2 hours each hour.  Serial Nos. 700-800.
2.) Circuit "Hubertus" short wave 21.00-09.00 hours BA = 4020 KHz and 09.00-11.00 hours OB = 5585 KHz, 11.00-12.00 hours RA = 7845 KHz 12.00-18.00 hours SC = 11165 KHz, 18.00-19.00 hours RA as above, 19.00-21.00 hours OB as above.  Very Low Frequency until further notice "Diana".  Serial Nos. 800-900.  3.)  Start of the circuit is ordered for individual boats or groups through guidance.  Other boats are not allowed to use the frequencies of convoy circuits as transmission frequencies.  5.)  Boats in the convoy circuit may also use frequencies from other circuits as a transmission frequency.  Enemy reports that are important for other boats must in any case first be placed on convoy short wave, then, if the message has not been acknowledged, be placed on another wavelength for contact.

01.12.42 Standing Order 21  1.)  Due to the bottom mine danger only proceed in shallow water up to depth 50 meters with bottom mine escort.  2.)  Maintain exact distance from escort:  a)  300 meters behind Sperrbrecher (keep the track buoy at the bow)  b)  100 meters behind the center of the two aft abeam of one another towed buoys.  With SSG and KFRG vessels.  c)  200 meters behind towed, small unmounted vessels. With HFG vessels.  2.)  If 2 U-boats are attached to the ground mine escort, the second U-boat will keep as close as possible behind the one ahead.

02.12.42 Various recent reports and accounts suggest that orders concerning Group Circuits (Order 207, but especially B2) were not observed.  Croup Circuit with breaking of homeland communications are the only possible quick communication between boats operating together, which is crucial for success, especially on convoys with strongly changing combat conditions.

15.12.42 To all boats:  In the event of a failure of the negative buoyancy tank, negative buoyancy must be addressed with the deep pumping regulator. In the event of failure of a negative buoyancy tank on a large boat 3 tons on a medium boat 2 tons.  With failure of both negative buoyancy tanks accordingly.  When diving start blowing in good time.  The frequent failure of negative buoyancy tanks due to leaky flood valves should not noticeably reduce the crash dive readiness of endangered boats and must only due to further difficulties by forward bulkhead cracks etc. lead to the cancellation of a task.

06.01.43 To all boats:  Despite orders to operate on a convoy at highest speed and stick with it, two boats broke off the operation on their own after holding contact for about 30 hours, without reporting immediately.  As a result these two boats fell out of an intended reconnaissance line with 6 other boats.  In order to avoid such consequences of incorrect considerations by Kommandanten, the following is ordered in principle:  Standing Order No. 26  1.)  If an operational order of leadership cannot be carried out, or if it has to be aborted during its execution due to lack of fuel, damage to machinery, personal contact with the enemy, excessive defense, heavy seas, this must be reported immediately by means of a Short Signal or Radio Message.  Also short-term malfunctions for if the situation is of importance for the Leadership, 2.) An operational order is binding, its execution may not be abandoned despite the loss of contact, weather deterioration and so on, as long as no order is issued by Leadership.

07.01.43 Radio admonishment from radio Control:  1.)  Short Signals were in general sent much to slowly and drawn out.  This makes receiving difficult.  Additionally, this type of  delivery offers the enemy good bearing possibilities. Sending speed should be 60 to 70 characters per minute.  2.)  Repeat of a line of text, a group, one letter wrong, do not need to be corrected by the boat, or sent another time. A wrong letter can always be garbled.
