President Truman often vacationed at Key West Naval Station. On 21 November 1947 he visited U-2513. The boat got underway and submerged to 440 feet, the first time a a President had submerged in a submarine. |
President Truman and his party returned to visit U-2513 on 5 December 1947 at Key West Naval Station, Florida. The President then presented two gold stars, and two bronze stars to Naval officers who had been selected for these awards. |
