U-960 was sunk March 19, 1944 by the destroyers USS Niblack and Ludlow and British Wellingtons (36 Squadron) and Venturas (500 Squadron)

Taken as U-960 maneuvered around the fore section of the torpedoed U.S. Liberty ship Sumner I. Kimball on January 16, 1944

The photo shows at left the wooden pole supporting a G.S.R. aerial, binoculars mounted on the Uboot Zieloptik (UZO - torpedo aiming device), the slot for the DF loop antenna and the MG-81 machine gun to the right
