Picture #1 Shows the entry of the mine into the water as it burrows along after striking the water about 100' ahead and to starboard of the swirl which is seen behind and to the right of the spray.

Picture #2 Shows the mine beginning its run after the splash has died down.

Picture #3 Still shows the track of the mine as it continues its run.  The disturbed circular patch of water ahead is apparently caused by an air bubble emitted from the U/B as it vents its tanks in an effort to gain greater depth.

Picture #4 Shows the agitation caused by explosion of the mine, lying along side the air bubble shown above in picture #3.  It will be noted by comparing these two pictures, that the mine had to change course to port in order to come in contact with the U/B.

Picture #5 Shows the slick caused by the explosion of the mine widening as the air bubble is beginning to dissipate.

Pictures #6&7 Show the large amounts of oil that rose to the surface making the water very smooth within the area of the slick above the point where the explosion occurred.

Picture #8 Is a close-up view of the heavy dark oil that rose to the surface.

The first of the next five enlargements is a view of the life raft that rose to the surface shortly after the explosion.

The next four pictures are enlargements of pictures #1 thru #4 included to bring out more of the details.
