| On her last patrol U-249 left Norway and operated off the western entrance to the English Channel. When she received the surrender order she surfaced and and few a black flag. The boat was located off the Scillies by a U.S. PB4-Y flown by LT F.L. Schaum. HMS Amethyst and Magpie met the boat and escorted her to Portland Bight. |
