Boat is no longer capable of deep diving. In 24 hours the battery bilge makes 1.5 tons water. Can not be repaired with onboard means. | |||||

1) Today sank after examining in FB 3815 Swede "BRAGELAND" 2700 GRT with wool, coffee and piece goods from Santos roadstead for Philadelphia, course 320°. | |||||
2) Leak in pressure hull sealed provisionally. | |||||
3) Junkers compressor out of service. Require complete mechanism for fuel and cooling water pump. | |||||
Because there were no further reports received, request for situation and position on 20, 21 and 23 January 1942 remained unanswered. | |||||
According to communication of Matr.Gfr. Jädike the boat was sunk by an aircraft at 04.00 on a still unknown day. 2 soldiers taken prisoner. | |||||
"U-164" was declared missing one star effective 20 January. | |||||

"U-164" was declared lost two stars with effect from 6 January 1943. On this day received notification by the Protecting Power that two men of the crew are prisoners of war; 54 soldiers, among them the Kommandant, remain. | ||
