The documents below are from Obermaschinenmaat Theo Hunkirchen's initial processing and formal interrogation - March to June 1944

POW Post Card notifying Theo's father that Theo was a POW in the custody of the USA - This was filled out at Camp PW E 326 at Naples, Italy on 11March 1944 the day after U-450 was sunk and Theo was taken prisoner.

On 1 April 1944 Theo was transferred to English custody at a POW camp at the foot of Mt. Vesuvius and transported to Glasgow, UK aboard Belgian steamer LeopoldvilleHe was moved to Camp 7, Winter Quarters Camp, Ascot (also known as the South East Cage) arriving 10 April 1944 where he underwent formal interrogation.  He arrived at Camp 21, Cultybraggan Camp, Comrie, Perthshire, UK on 9 May 1944.  Note that the forms below assigning Theo his UK POW identification number were not filled out until after formal interrogation was complete.  This was done to avoid the rules and regulations of the Geneva convention which would have allowed the Red Cross to visit and inspect the facilities used for interrogation.

On 18 June 1944 Theo embarked the Queen Elizabeth in Glascow for transfer to the US arriving in New York on 21 June 1944
