Depth charges explode as LT Bradford's PBY passes overhead - the explosions occur so quickly because two the the four MK44 depth charges were fuzed to explode on impact

Spray from depth bombs subsides as Archimede emerges from the depth bomb slick down by the stern

Immediately after this attack Archimede stopped and sank slowly by the stern as the crew abandoned ship - the PBY's made four strafing runs during this period

 

Archimede has sunk leaving an oil slick and 30-40 survivors in the water
